About
Mike Tannura is the founder and owner of T-storm Weather, which is widely considered among the best and most highly-respected weather and yield forecasting firms in the agricultural trading industry.
Mike has a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from Iowa State University, and a Master of Science in Agricultural and Consumer Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The master degree included a thesis titled “Weather, Corn and Soybean Yields, and Technology in the U.S. Corn Belt” that provided an extensive literature review of weather and yield studies starting in the 1800s, and a comprehensive update with modern statistics of the relationship between weather, technology, and yields.
Mike has always been fascinated with weather and initially interned at WGN-TV and KCCI-TV, and then worked as an on-camera meteorologist for KHAS-TV in Nebraska, and WCIA-TV and WILL-AM-FM-TV in Illinois. In 2000, he was certified with the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval for Television Broadcasting for technical competence, and informational and explanatory value.
He formulated the idea for the T-storm Weather subscription service while interning at Kraft Foods’ Dairy Procurement Division and completing the Master’s Degree, as he realized grain traders desperately needed easier-to-understand weather forecasts. The initial forecasts and presentation provided by T-storm Weather in 2006 led to overwhelmingly positive reviews, and subscribers are now located throughout the U.S. and seven countries. The service has also evolved to include weekly corn and soybean yield forecasts for the U.S., long-range forecasts for the U.S. and world, and now utilizes state-of-the art Geographic System Information analyses of crop and weather data to maintain a leading edge.
