Barry Wishner

Expert on business execution and seizing future business opportunities

A nationally known speaker and expert on business execution and seizing future opportunities in business.

A successful businessman and entrepreneur, Barry knows how to make things happen. As Founder/CEO of DMC (a management consulting firm), he grew his company to over $50 million in revenues.

A confidant to corporate executives, he has interviewed over 300 Fortune 500 CEO's and over 1000 entrepreneurs on how they Get Stuff Done in a fast-changing business environment.

Business Execution has been the cornerstone of his exciting keynote speeches for over 10 years. Barry takes complex business theories and translates them to practical strategies for corporations, entrepreneurs, small businesses and sales groups.

In sharing his findings with audiences from 25-5,000, the comparison has been made that "What Tom Peters Is to Excellence, Barry Wishner is to Business Execution."

He continues to personally interview over 300 executives per year, guaranteeing his audiences timely, relevant and cutting edge information.

Experienced Business Leader, Corporate Executive and Entrepreneur:

After holding executive positions with Mannings, Inc. and Saga, Inc. (now owned by the Marriott Corporation) Barry founded DMC, a management consulting firm in the San Francisco Bay Area.

As the president of DMC he developed the concept of "The Alternate Solution" (a hybrid of external consultants and in-house operations and a forerunner of today's practice of outsourcing).

Barry's management consulting originally involved several industries including health care and the food industry, and has expanded into a wide variety of general businesses.

He provided expertise and systems for restaurants and noncommercial food service operations.

As owner of the steak house Johnny's Bar & Grill, he was involved in the day-to-day operations including hiring, firing, budgeting, payroll, purchasing, and marketing .

Barry designed, built and operated Retirement Communities.

He developed operational systems and leadership practices for hospitals and long term care facilities.

He has worked with retailers to reposition their businesses, utilizing local store marketing activities to increase traffic flow and develop a business plan for bottom-line profits.

Barry has been on the boards of several non-profit corporations, including the Boards of the Jewish Welfare Federation, the Japanese Federation and the Santa Clara Methodist Retirement Foundation.

Educator:

Barry has been adjunct professor at Gold Gate University, City College of San Francisco and Canada College and a consultant to the American Heart Association.

Bringing to the classroom a businessman's perspective, Barry provided real world answers to students, entrepreneurs and executives rather than scenarios from (often) out-dated textbooks. To those attending his sessions, he was able to draw from the successes of his own efforts to build businesses, start restaurants and thrive; and show how these actions and strategies would impact their own businesses. To students of the international market, he relayed the stories and examples of corporate executives involved in international trade and the insights gleaned from one-on-one interviews with these CEO's.

Expert and Researcher on The Unique Subject of Business Execution:

Quoted in USA Today, the Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle, Barry is a contributing writer to a variety of business publications. His television appearances include business programs such as CNN's Financial News.

Research on Humor. Barry has done extensive research on how humor and entertainment are utilized to impact the adult learning experience.

Study of CEO productivity at the personal level - Lifestyles of Powerful People, 1985: Written survey of CEO lifestyles.

Global CEO Productivity Survey, 1986: Survey regarding attitudes towards productivity in the workplace.

International, global study of Japanese Presidents and CEO's, 1987: Cultural differences in leadership styles.

Survey of the Executive Assistants to the Fortune 500 CEO's, 1988: Survey of 261 executive assistants provided a behind-the-scene look on how Presidents and CEO's move their companies.

CEO Study of Winners in American Business and their characteristics (On-Going Interviews) Study goes to the fundamental issue of what makes a winner - a result of how they use business execution as a competitive edge.

His Global CEO Report grew from his definitive profile of CEO personal productivity and has expanded to explore what makes leaders get to the top and stay there, and how these leadership traits drive companies to execute change and grow the company profitably. Barry's forthcoming book is based on his pioneering research and illustrates that good enough isn't enough; better is what counts in the changing business environment.

Personal History:

Born in Brooklyn, Barry made his speaking debut at the age of five assisting his father Zovello, a magician who starred in a nationally syndicated television show. His high-energy, fun-filled, interactive programs can be traced back to the evangelistic influence of his Alabama-born mother and his early show business career with his father and Shari Lewis on NBC.
